Wind: U.S. Map of Where to Find the Best of It
June 17, 2008 – 10:24 pmUnderstanding Wind: Wind is a manifestation of solar energy that results from the uneven warming of the earth’s surface. This creates pockets of cold and hot air masses with low and high pressures that constantly negotiate to find a balance. As pressure rises, air speed and strength rises.
Understanding Wind Farms: Wind farms are constellations of windmill turbines organized into a common power grid. The windmills generate electricity by converting the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical energy. The windmill’s blades capture energy from the wind by spinning, which starts a generator and produces low-voltage electric energy.
