Who Owns the World’s Oil Tankers?
June 9, 2008 – 2:16 amTerritory size shows the proportion of oil tankers in the world registered there.
This map reflects the oil tanker registrations per capita throughout the world. A critical insight revealed by the map is that countries with the largest number of oil tankers registrations per capita have neither significant petroleum imports nor exports. For example, the landlocked country of Luxembourg has the tenth largest weight of tankers registered per person living there. In addition, places with high numbers of oil tanker registrations are typically surrounded by areas with few or no oil tankers registered there.
The Bahamas have 93 deadweight tons of oil tanker registered for each person who lives there.
