DOE Announces New Research Funding for Nanomanufacturing for Energy Efficiency

April 29, 2008 – 9:08 pm

The U.S. Department of Energy has alloted $10 million in research funds for its “Nanomanufacturing for Energy Efficiency 2008″ initiative. The project will fund projects over a three year period. Awards will range from approximately$150,000 to $2,000,000. The application deadline is May 30, 2008. The fund aims to promote research into nanotechnologies that reduce energy and carbon intensity in manufacturing applications.

“The objective is to drive improvements in the reliability of nanomaterials production and scale up of manufacturing processes, and seeks “quick-win” projects with a realistic path to commercialization in 3 to 5 years,” according to the Industrial Technologies Program press release.

The proposed R&D and commercialization plans should address one of the following technology categories:

* Catalysts
* Coatings and thin-films
* Separations media
* Nanocomposites
* Other nano-developments that yield energy and carbon benefits.

Applicants should visit the ITP Active Solicitations Web site for additional information.
