Suntech Expansion of U.S. Market Presence
Suntech Power announced three initiatives designed to significantly expand its share of the U.S. solar market, including establishment of a joint venture with MMA Renewable Ventures forming Gemini Solar Development Company, acquisition of EI Solutions with the new subsidiary to be named Suntech Energy Solutions headed by Andrew Beebe, and rapid expansion of Suntech’s U.S. dealer network.
Canadian Solar Capacity Expansion, Guidance
Canadian Solar Inc. announced it has completed and commissioned Phase I of its ingot and wafer plant giving the company an annual ingot and wafer capacity of 60 MW. Phase II is expected to be completed by year-end bringing the capacity to 150-200 MW. CSI’s 250-MW Phase II cell plant will also be completed in October.
Yingli PV Module Contracts with GeckoLogic and Sinosol
Yingli Green Energy Holding Company Limited announced it has entered into a 28-MW module sales contract with GeckoLogic GmbH and a 30-MW module sales contract with Sinosol AG.
SunPower, Invest North PV System, Australia
SunPower Corporation has signed an agreement to build a 305-kW SunPower PV system on the roof of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. Invest North Pty Ltd. is the owner of the project. The Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and Arts is providing financial backing as part of Australia’s $94 million Solar Cities Program. Earlier this year SunPower acquired Solar Sales Pty Ltd.
SunPower PV System for AT&T, California
SunPower, CH2MHill and Morgan Stanley are working with AT&T on a 1-MW solar power system, being built by SunPower at AT&T’s San Ramon’s Bishop Ranch. Incentives from PG&E Corp. helped pay for the system.
